State Champions: Hilltoppers Late Rally Brings First Baseball State Title to Duluth Since 1950

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.- After being down 2-0 to Minnehaha Academy through five innings, Duluth Marshall forced a late rally to ultimately take the game 4-2 winning the first state title in program history.

The comeback all began with a leadoff double by Carter Sullivan followed by an rbi base hit by Peter Hanson to  make it a one run game in the top of the sixth. Cole Maccoux got the bats going in the top of the seventh with a leadoff triple and after that it was contagious. Alex Busick, Sullivan and Hanson each with a hit to. make it a 4-2 game. Senior ace pitcher Ben Pederson went 6 and 1/3 innings with 9 strikeouts, 2 earned runs and no walks. Brett Benson came in to close out the game ending with a strikeout.

The Hilltoppers now return to the Northland with the first baseball state title since 1950.
