DULUTH, Minn.- The two-time National Champion University of Minnesota-Duluth Men’s Hockey Team was back on AMSOIL Ice Wednesday night to receive their championship rings. It was at that ceremony that the unstoppable Hunter Shepard was named ‘Most Valuable Player’ for the second consecutive season, earning his spot as our first Athlete of the Week this fall.
Shepard concluded his Junior year with a total of 81 straight starts and was a first team all-American, being the first Bulldog to do so in 10 years. The goalie was also an all NCHC first team pick and reigning NCHC Goaltender of the year, Ranked first in victories with A record of 29-11-2 And a save percentage of .923.
In the 2019 postseason, Shepard went a perfect 8-0-0 with a .79 goals against average and a .967 saves percentage. Shepard will be returning to UMD for his senior season hoping to backstop the team to it’s third consecutive national title.
