Bulldogs Down Huskies To Become NCHC Frozen Face-off Champions

ST PAUL, Minn.- After forcing a double overtime, UMD’s Nick Swaney buries a backhander to seal in a 3-2 victory over St. Cloud State becoming the 2019 NCHC Frozen Face-off Champions.

The Huskies got on the board leading early in the first. But just minutes later, in 4-on-4 play Mikey Anderson snipes one to tie up the game and get the Bulldogs back in it. After a scoreless second period, the Huskies regained the lead. With five minutes remaining in the game Billy Exell capitalizes on the power play tying the game sending it into overtime. Swaney’s overtime game winning goal gave the Bulldogs the title they fell short of in the 2017-18 season. Hunter Shepard was in goal recording 34 saves on 36 shots on goal.

UMD moves on to 24-11-2 on the season. They now prepare for the NCAA tournament which begins on March 29.
